Past Cebu governor Emilio "Lito" Osmeña is going to be back in the senatorial race.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) last week overturned its previous decision disqualifying Osmena, presidential aspirant Nicanor Perlas, and four other people from getting started with the country wide race right after proving that they had supporters plus means that can wage a serious campaign.

The Comelec stated Osmeña was not a political neophyte mainly because displayed through his expertise as governor.

"I'm glad that common sense has prevailed," stated Osmeña mentioned in the interview with dyAB.

He mentioned he already believed his earlier disqualification to be reversed as soon as he submitted his Motion for Reconsideration.

"I wrote in my COC (certificate of candidacy) my full name Emilio Mario Osmeña. It could be the reason why Comelec did not recognize me," he said.

Osmeña mentioned he had been already excited to start his campaign.

He was convinced that your Cebuanos and also the other Visayan local community together with the ones in Mindanao would vote for him and also his cousin, previous senator Serge Osmeña, who is likewise going for senator.

Lito Osmeña said the Cebuano speaking provinces need representation within Senate.

He declared considering the fact that he is now a senior citizen, he doesn't plan to be physically present in provinces in order to campaign.

"I will be using modern technology in my campaign. As a senior citizen, I will not be (visiting placed as part of my) campaigning," he stated.

On the other hand, Perlas, an independent running on an environmental and reformist program, will be joined by Vetellano Acosta of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos's party. This followed the KBL's nomination of Acosta as its standard bearer.

The inclusion of Perlas and Acosta puts the number of presidential candidates to 10, the largest number of candidates in any kind of presidential race so far in the country.

The Comelec also granted the motion for reconsideration of senatorial candidates Ret. Army Brig. Gen. Danny Lim, Nanette Espinosa, and Bangon Pilipinas' Adz Nikabulin, bringing to 62 the total number of senatorial candidates.

In its 26-page resolution, the Comelec said Perlas had an "existing organized group of persons throughout the country who volunteered to support his bid."

Perlas claimed to have 24 million supporters concerning the Internet and had an in depth political platform.

Perlas, who was earlier disqualified as a nuisance candidate, welcomed the ruling, saying it heralded a "bright" upcoming for Philippine politics.

"The people are fed up with traditional politicians," who depend on cash as well as connections to win votes, Perlas explained to reporters right after the promulgation of the verdict at the Comelec headquarters.

"This is a historical decision, a historical event. Money should not run our country, but quality and real vision," he added.

Perlas said his disqualification ended up being a advantage in disguise as the media coverage of the controversy introduced him to more voters.
